HOW WAS YOUR TRIP AROUND THE WORLD?

Thursday, March 7th was an extremely hectic day for our students and staff. We hosted our 9th Annual International Cafe!

Early morning, students and teachers began embellishing their class and turning them into the nation they had actually decided to present. Posters and flags were put on the walls, streamers were hung from the ceilings, tables were filled of food, desserts and drinks, and students were worn typical costumes.

At 11:30 am our trip around the world began. Each class followed a traveling and hosting schedule. Everybody had the chance to travel to Thailand (Kindergarten), Jamaica (Gr. 1), France (Gr. 2), Madagascar (Gr. 3), Argentina (Gr. 4 and 5), and finally to Egypt (Gr. 6, 7 and 8). The visitors of each nation tried different foods, heard the presentations prepared by the senior high school students, and discovered essential realities about each nation. Every room looked wonderful and the food was delicious!

The trip worldwide ended at 2:40, and the pupils quickly change into their costumes. All the various nations and cultures « met » in the health club where the students from each grade had prepared a small presentation, based on their nation, to share with the moms and dads, grandparents, siblings and buddies. The Kindergarten students shared the poem « Sawadee » (saying hello) and a song, while the Grade 1 students showed everybody how to play a standard kids’ game from Jamaica. The Grade 2 pupils sang the song « Surle Pont D’Avignon » and the Grade Threes sang « The Ballad of Lisa the Lemur ». The Grade 4/5 and the Grade 6/7/8 students decided to carry out a typical dance from the country they were presenting. All the performances were amazing! The kids did great!

We had a lot of fun that day, and a big surprise was in store for us. Ms. Meaghan and baby Oliver joined us for the festivities! Everybody were thrilled to see Ms. Meaghan and meet Oliver. We would like to thank all our visitors for making the effort to join us on our trip around the world, as well as everybody who helped us prepare for this big day. We might not have done it without your assistance and support. A big thank you goes out to Ms. Olga for planning and organizing the day, and all the teachers and pupils for working plenty of hours on getting the class embellished, the food made, the performances perfected. We would also like to thank Mr. Vlad for the beautiful and innovative art work that was used to embellish the rooms. Lastly, we would like to thank the senior high school pupils for helping in any and every method they could, and for preparing comprehensive and informative presentations for each pavilion, as well as Stacy M. for introducing the performers.

We all expect next year’s International Cafe and wonder exactly what countries we will be traveling to!

Our Private School in Toronto will be closed from Monday, March 11th till Friday, March 15th. The guests of each country tried different foods, heard the discussions prepared by the high school pupils, and discovered important truths about each country. The Kindergarten students shared the poem « Sawadee » (saying hello) and a song, while the Grade 1 pupils showed everybody how to play a standard kids’s game from Jamaica. The Grade 4/5 and the Grade 6/7/8 pupils selected to carry out a typical dance from the country they were presenting. Last but not least, we would like to thank the high school students for helping in any and every way they could, and for preparing presentations for each structure, as well as Stacy M. for introducing the performers.
